Privacy Policy
What data beeptest.net handles, why, and what you can do about it.
Last updated October 14, 2026
The short version
- There are no accounts, sign-ups or payments on this site.
- Your test results and settings are saved in your own browser. We never receive them.
- The age and sex you type in for a fitness rating are not saved or sent anywhere.
- Google Analytics runs only if you click Accept. If you decline, it never loads.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and sees the basic data every website request carries, such as your IP address.
Who we are
beeptest.net is run by Tim Murphy, a sole trader based in Australia. He is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Tim Murphy.
For any privacy question or request, email hello@beeptest.net.
What we handle and why
Data that stays on your device
The site saves a few things in your browser's local storage so it works the way you left it: your last 20 test results (level, shuttle, estimated VO₂ max, distance, time, date and whether it was the 20m or 15m test), the test version you last picked, and your cookie choice. This data stays on your device. We cannot see it and it is never sent to us. You can delete your results with the "Clear history" button on the results screen, or delete everything by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
If you add the site to your home screen, your browser also keeps a copy of the site's own files so the test works offline. That copy holds no personal data.
Age and sex
The results screen and the VO₂ max calculator let you enter your age and sex to see an age-adjusted fitness rating. The rating is worked out in your browser. We do not save these values, add them to your result history or send them anywhere, including to Google Analytics. They are gone when you reload or leave the page. Age-adjusted ratings are for adults 18 and over.
Google Analytics (only with your consent)
If you click Accept on the cookie notice, the site loads Google Analytics 4. It tells us which pages people visit and how they use the test, so we know which pages are useful. It collects the pages you view, the page that sent you here, your device and browser type, screen size, and your approximate location (such as country or city), which Google works out from your IP address. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Depending on its settings, Google Analytics can also record actions such as scrolling, clicks on links to other sites and file downloads.
The site also sends Google Analytics a few events of its own: when a test starts (with the 20m or 15m version), when a test ends (with the level, shuttle, estimated VO₂ max and test version), and when someone uses the PACER lap converter. These events never include your age or sex.
Our lawful basis is your consent. If you decline, or never choose, Google Analytics does not load and sets no cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time (see changing your cookie choice). Withdrawing does not affect tracking that happened before you withdrew.
Hosting and security (Cloudflare)
Cloudflare hosts the site and delivers every page and file. Like any web host, it receives the data your browser sends with each request: your IP address, browser and device details (the user agent), the page or file requested, the referring page and the time. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site and protect it from attacks and abuse. It may set a short-lived security cookie if it needs to check that a visitor is not a bot.
Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a site that works and stays secure. We do not run our own server logs or a database, and the site has no server code that records your requests.
Fonts
The site uses fonts already installed on your device and does not download any fonts. Each page does include a hint that lets your browser open an early connection to Google's font servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). No font file is requested, but opening that connection can show your IP address to Google.
Voice calls and audio files
When you turn the voice on, the test uses your browser's built-in speech feature to call out levels. Some browsers use an online voice service from the browser maker for this. If yours does, the words being spoken (such as a level number) go to that service, under the browser maker's own privacy policy.
The MP3 downloads are plain files served from the same host as the rest of the site. Downloading one involves the same request data described above for Cloudflare, and, if you accepted analytics, may be counted as a download in Google Analytics.
If you email us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and deal with your request. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. We keep emails only as long as we need them for that request and any follow-up, then delete them.
Cookies and browser storage
| Name | Type | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| beeptest:history | Browser storage on your device | Keeps your last 20 test results so you can see them next time | Until you clear it |
| beeptest:variant | Browser storage on your device | Remembers whether you last picked the 20m or 15m test | Until you clear it |
| beeptest:consent | Browser storage on your device | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies | Until you clear it or change your choice |
| _ga | Google Analytics cookie, only after you click Accept | Gives your browser a random ID so Google Analytics can count returning visitors | Up to 2 years (Google default) |
| _ga_VJ7L56TSNF | Google Analytics cookie, only after you click Accept | Keeps track of your current visit | Up to 2 years (Google default) |
The three browser storage items are needed for features you use, so they do not need your consent. The Google Analytics cookies are set only after you click Accept.
Who else handles your data
We use two service providers that process personal data for us:
- Cloudflare hosts the site, delivers it and protects it from abuse.
- Google provides Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies.
Each handles data under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and the site shows no ads. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
International transfers
We are based in Australia. Cloudflare and Google are US companies that process data in the United States and other countries. Where UK or EU data protection law applies, these providers rely on safeguards recognised under that law for transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or, for the United States, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension where the provider is certified.
How long data is kept
- Browser storage on your device: until you clear it. We never hold a copy.
- Google Analytics data: for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, after which Google deletes it. Google Analytics cookies last up to 2 years by default.
- Cloudflare request data: kept by Cloudflare for limited periods under its own policies.
- Emails: as long as needed to deal with your request, then deleted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct it or delete it
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
- receive it in a portable format
- withdraw your consent to analytics at any time
To make a request, email hello@beeptest.net. We will reply within one month. We do not know visitors' names, and Google Analytics links data only to a random cookie ID, so we may need that ID from you to find your analytics data. Declining analytics and clearing this site's cookies stops any further collection straight away.
Please contact us first so we can try to fix the problem. You also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In Australia it is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). In the EU, contact the data protection authority in your country.
Children
This site is for a general audience. It has no accounts and asks for no names or contact details. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before you accept analytics cookies, or choose Decline. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when the site's handling of data changes, and change the date at the top. If we start collecting new kinds of personal data, such as for accounts, we will update this policy before that happens.
