Beep Test .net is built and looked after by Tim, an indie developer and fitness enthusiast who works in the sport sector and is mad about cycling. It's a one-person project, not a company.
What this site is
Beep Test .net is a free, no-signup 20-meter multistage fitness test that runs in your browser. Press play and the audio cues start. No app store, no account, no downloads.
It exists because the other options weren't great. Free beep test audio files online are usually buried behind ads or a shaky YouTube rip. A lot of "free" versions want your email address before they'll give you the file. And several polished apps exist, but they charge for what should be a simple stopwatch with a speaker attached. This site is the version that just works, for free.
How the numbers are worked out
VO₂ max estimates use the equation from Léger et al. (1988), the original research paper behind the 20m shuttle run test.
Fitness ratings (poor, fair, good, and so on) use the category bands published by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
Standards pages for police, military, and sports cite their primary sources where possible. Fitness entry requirements change and vary by force, unit, and country, so always confirm the current standard with the recruiting agency itself before you rely on it.
Not affiliated
Beep Test .net is an independent site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The Cooper Institute (which publishes FitnessGram and the PACER test), any police force, or any military body. Standards data is provided for reference only.
